Job Type: Full-time, Contract, Temporary
Belfast City Council is seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join our Open Spaces and Streetscene Section as an OSS Sweeper Driver/Labourer. This role involves providing a crucial manual and mechanical cleansing service to maintain the cleanliness of public spaces within the city. *Your Duties:*
* Responsible for manual and mechanical sweeping and collection of sweepers bags in designated areas.
* Drive and maintain allocated vehicles, assisting with labouring duties as required.
* Summary of Responsibilities and Personal Duties:
* Report to and communicate daily with the relevant line manager for instructions and work schedules.
* Follow daily squad routes, collecting litter, emptying bins, and performing manual sweeps as needed.
* Transport staff to and from work or routes as required.
* Safely use and operate equipment such as bin lifts, tail lifts, and weighing equipment.
* Service litterbins on route to the required standard.
* Assist non-drivers with associated labouring work, including digging, sweeping, and lifting waste.
* Drive and be responsible for the allocated vehicle, ensuring it is not overloaded.
* Perform daily vehicle checks, servicing, and cleaning instructions as specified.
* Adhere to driving guidelines, including the driver’s handbook, daily checks, and accident procedures.
* Ensure compliance with Operator Licensing, Tachograph, and Driver Regulations.
* Work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, wearing appropriate protective gear.
* Communicate with the public, handle queries and complaints, and report incidents to the PSNI.
* Attend court as required to provide witness statements on behalf of the council.
* Participate in training and assist in on-the-job coaching and induction of new employees.
* Adhere to council policies and procedures, including customer care, equal opportunities, and health and safety.
*Your Profile:*
* Full driving license (Category C1).
* Proven experience in manual and mechanical cleansing services.
* Ability to operate relevant equipment safely.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Ability to work in a team and follow instructions.
* Flexibility to perform tasks beyond the specified job description.
*Desirable:*
* Previous experience in a similar role.
* Knowledge of Belfast City Council policies and procedures.
* First Aid Certification.
*Additional Information:*
* Belfast, Alexandra Park Recycling Centre.
* 07:00-15:00.
